چکیده

(1) Was it not a matter of pure chance that in the absence of signs suggestive of spinal involvement they undertook an MRI exploration of the whole CNS and found a spinal AVM? (2) Can they attribute the headache to the lumbar bleed and explain it on the basis of trigeminal nociceptive receptor stimulation, based on the fact that the patient was a predisposed migraineur? (3) Are they justified in suggesting extensive search for a spinal AVM in the absence of symptoms or signs of medullary or spinal root involvement?

A Ruptured Extra-dural Spinal Arterio-venous Malformation Presenting as Horner's Syndrome: The First Case Report

We report the first case of a young patient who presented with the features of Horner's syndrome following a spinal extradural hematoma resulting from a ruptured arterio-venous malformation (AVM). Since there were features of early compressive myelopathy as well, urgent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of the spine revealed features suggestive of an extradural hematoma in the cervico-thora...

Rendering a ruptured arteriovenous malformation more susceptible to spontaneous obliteration as a possible treatment strategy for cerebral AVM

Spontaneous regression of cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a rare phenomenon, but its occurrence is an important consideration in treatment planning. A 58-year-old male was found to have a high-flow AVM of Spetzler-Martin Grade III. Before his scheduled treatment, the AVM ruptured with a large parenchymal hemorrhage. Following emergency decompressive surgery, a targeted embolization...

METHODS Participants included 979 female patients with intracranial AVM admitted to Beijing Tiantan Hospital between 1960 and 2010. Two neurosurgery residents reviewed medical records for each case. Of them, 393 patients with ruptured AVM between 18 and 40 years of...

Successful perinatal management of a ruptured brain arteriovenous malformation in a pregnant patient by endovascular embolization followed by elective cesarean section: a single-case experience

Background Although brain arteriovenous malformations (AVM) usually remain asymptomatic during pregnancy, they can cause intracranial hemorrhage and lead to serious neurological deficits. Nowadays, it is accepted that treatment of a ruptured brain AVM during pregnancy should be based on neurologic, not obstetric, indications.Recently, endovascular treatment has been recognized as a treatment op...
